koutetsujou no kabaneri – Love Sweet Parfait (2024)

Here’s a list of anime I’ve watched in 2016.

I only included those I’ve completed watching. Titles are listed in alphabetical order and not limited to those released in 2016.

Ajin & Ajin 2

Because SOMEONE postponed Shingeki no Kyojin, I had to look for some action-packed killing anime to make up for the disappointment.

Unexpectedly, I ended up marathon-ing this because it was so exciting. The inhumane experiments freaked me out at first (imagine the pain) but all the fighting later got me glued to the screen.

Also, WHEN WILL SATOU FINALLY DIE THAT ROACH OF A MAN.

Fudanshi Koukou Seikatsu

I’m not a fujoshi but I really enjoyed relating to all the otaku references.

Favourite scene is hands down “BL no Teiou: Mori**** Toshiyuki” lol. That really got me laughing out loud. Plus according to a Japanese blog, it turns out that the protagonist’s CV has quite a number of BL works with said Teiou. XD I wonder if it was on purpose.

Gintama: Aizome Kaori-hen

Can someone tell me why I still love Gintoki despite all the disgusting things he do like peeing from the top of a building.

I also cannot un-see the Gintoki and Kondo scene omg. *washes eyes with bleach*

Haikyuu!!: Karasuno Koukou VS Shiratorizawa Gakuen Koukou

Tis Tsukki’s season. I don’t have any feelings towards Tsukishima but I did enjoy watching him get his share of the character development limelight. I mean, it’s gonna get boring if it’s Hinata and Kageyama all the time.

I had no expectations watching this since my fave Oikawa is out of the game lol sobs. Why do my favourite sports anime characters (i.e. Aomine Daiki) always get kick out of the game so fast wtf. Then they get demoted to sports commentators for the rest of the show orz.

Handa-kun

Lol Handa-kun you poor thing. It’s so funny how his imagination of what the people around him think of him is so ridiculous but somehow matches the circumstances so perfectly that you can’t really blame him for misunderstanding haha.

I also want to applaud the fact that they kept his x=12 on the blackboard throughout the whole show. XD

Joker Game

HOT GUYS!!!

It was love at first sight with this title. Good-looking men and spy setting? I’M IN.

I’m still bitter that they killed one of the guys though. 😦

Kamisama Hajimemashita: Kako Hen & Kamisama, Shiawase ni Naru

TOMOE!!!

I feel like they kind of shortchanged Akura Ou though. Please make a spin off with him as the main character!!! I want him to shiawase ni naru too!!!

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri

Ah yes, the production that was prioritised over the second season of Shingeki no Kyojin. The show wasn’t so bad though so I forgive them for pushing SnK to 2017.

I expected this show to be longer though. The ending felt a bit monotarinai. I was expecting a lot more fighting with the kabanes. The second part of the show after Biba appeared went by pretty quickly. Or perhaps it was just me treating the show as a substitute for SnK and wanting more.

Mayoiga

This show is so weird (not as weird as Shin Sekai Yori though) but just couldn’t stop watching though the characters really annoyed the hell out of me for a good while.

Natsume Yuujinchou Go

I’m sooo happy that they keep rolling out the seasons for this. This show is water for my infertile dry heart lol.

Five seasons in we still don’t know much about Natsume Reiko’s past. I hope they shed some light in Season 6.

I also want more Matoba because Suwabae.

Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan

What’s with Saiki’s resemblance to Akashi. They even have the same seiyuu. I’m positive they did it on purpose. On a side note, Kamiya Hiroshi’s voice does not make me drool (like Suwabe Junichi’s) but it kind of just flows over me naturally and I feel very comfortable listening to him. It’s amazing how he voices very different roles but doesn’t sound awkward in any of them.

Sakamoto desu ga?

F**king hilarious.

Sakamoto is so smooth it’s funny. I love how they would make him look ~cool~ while doing the most ridiculous stuff like fighting a bee (stinger) with a compass wtf. I also like how Acchan has a man crush on Sakamoto. I would burst out laughing whenever he blushes in front of Sakamoto. Doesn’t help that his CV is Sugita Tomokazu. It’s also hilarious to see him looking all yanki and blowing bubbles instead of smoking.

There were some (sad) speculations on Sakamoto’s reason for leaving school. I haven’t actually verified the authenticity of the claims but if it’s true then it’s really sad. Or perhaps it’s the manga artist’s way of letting the readers make their own interpretations. Rather than having a “complete” ending, it’s more impressionable to have an open one so that the audience can continue the story in their own minds after the official ending.

Sekaiichi Hatsukoi Movie: Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai

Omg Yokozawa blushing like an otome. I’m glad he found his own happiness.

Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

Peaceful hilarious.

I like how it’s relaxing but also very entertaining. Miyano is sooo cute omg. Oota is teh waifu and Tanaka is the master of laziness. Oh, and Tanaka’s sister is savage lol.

Favourite scenes include Tanaka falling off of his chair while dozing off and Miyano calling Tanaka “SHISHOU!!!” in this super cute voice.

Despite Tanaka’s apparent laziness, he seems to be quite intelligent and does say some wise things sometimes. I do wonder how he manages to stay thin when he doesn’t move at all. Oh wait, he’s so lazy that he’d probably rather not eat if no one is around to give him food.

I love the design of the school too. Man, I’d love to study in a school like this. So big and airy and “woody”. Or perhaps I’m too old and it’s a norm for schools now???

Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru

Zero expectations for this too and I was pleasantly surprised at how pleasant this show was. Everyone is so lovable and the stories are heartwarming. My fave is Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, a.k.a. emo Kise, as my ex-schoolmate used to call him.

It’s really cute how they make mentions of their Master in a way that suggests that it’s YOU, the gamer/watcher. It makes you feel like you’re part of the show. It’s also obvious the master is a hikikomori otaku too lol orz.

Favourite scenes include Yamanba falling off the engawa and Yamanba being drunk.

Did I mention Yamanba is my fave???

Watashi ga Motete Dousunda

I can relate to the heroine in so many ways even though I’m not a fujoshi. One of my favourite scenes was when she dramatically told the guys she was on date with “SORRY I HAVE TO GO” and dashed into Anime Ito (totally not pun for Animate) to get her last-piece dakimakura. Plus the guys’ faces after that hahahahaha.

To me, the best parts about this show is not the otome elements but the BL elements. It’s so funny to see the guys being forced to do BL-ish poses lol. But it’s really sweet of them to “sacrifice” to help Kae lose weight.

Honestly though, the guys (except Mutsumi senpai) are so superficial, liking Kae only after she lost weight but I tried to ignore this fact while watching so I can enjoy it better.

Concluding Thoughts

Whew, that was quite a number of anime I watched. Safe to say 2016 was a pretty good year for anime. Spring 2017 is proving to be quite dry for me so far. I hope I can discover more titles (new or old) this season before I dry up myself. XD
